What is an implant-retained denture?

An implant-retained denture is a denture that clips onto dental implants rather than resting on your gums alone. The implants hold small attachments, called locators, and the denture snaps onto them for a firm, confident hold. You still take it out to clean it, but it does not move about while you eat and talk.

There are two parts to getting one made, and it helps to know who does which. A dentist or implant surgeon places the implants in your jaw. We are the laboratory that designs and makes the denture that clips onto them. We do not place implants, and we work to whatever implant system your own dentist uses, so you are never locked into one surgery’s kit.

To capture the implants accurately we take a pick-up impression, which records exactly where the locators sit. Our chrome background is what makes us strong at combining those implant housings into a well-fitting chrome, partial or acrylic framework.

Honest pricing

What it costs, honestly

Most of the cost of an implant-retained denture is the implant surgery, which your dentist or surgeon prices. We price the denture we make. The clearest way to understand your case is a free consultation.

We will always be straight about which part is ours and which is your surgeon's.

Costs vary widely by case. We give you a clear price for the laboratory work. Your implant surgeon prices the surgery.

How it works

The stages, start to finish

01

Consultation and planning

We talk through what you want and how it fits with your dentist. If you do not have an implant surgeon yet, we can point you to a reputable local one.

02

Your dentist places the implants

A dentist or surgeon places the implants and lets them heal. This is the clinical part, and it is theirs, not ours.

03

Pick-up impression and try-in

Once the implants are ready, we take a pick-up impression that captures the locators, then set the teeth and try them in for look and fit.

04

Finish and fit

We build the attachments into your frame, finish the denture and fit it so it clips on cleanly and holds firmly.

Who does what

Your surgeon places the implants, we make the denture

Implant-retained dentures are a two-part job. Here is exactly which part is ours, so you always know who to see.

The implants are placed

A dentist or implant surgeon places the implants in the jaw and chooses the system. Wessex does not place implants. That clinical work is theirs.

We make the denture

We design and make the denture that clips onto your implants, built into a chrome, partial or acrylic frame from a pick-up impression that captures the locators. We work to whatever implant system your dentist has used.

Plain answers

Questions about this service

No jargon, no pressure. If your question is not here, call the lab and a technician will talk it through.

How much do implant-retained dentures cost?
Most of the cost is the implant surgery, which your dentist or surgeon prices, not us. We price the denture we make. Because cases vary so much, the honest answer comes from a consultation rather than a headline figure.
Do you place the implants, or does a dentist?
A dentist or implant surgeon places the implants. We are the laboratory that designs and makes the denture that clips onto them. Keeping those roles clear is exactly why people come to us for straight answers.
What is the difference between implant-retained and implant-supported?
An implant-retained denture clips onto the implants and you take it out to clean it. An implant-supported (fixed) option is screwed in and stays put. Retained is removable and usually needs fewer implants. We make both.
Do implant-retained dentures come out or come loose?
They are designed to be taken out for cleaning, but they clip firmly in place for everyday wear and do not move about like a conventional denture can. The locator attachments wear over time and are simple to renew.
I do not have an implant surgeon. Can you help?
Yes. We are glad to point you to a reputable local implant surgeon, then pick up the denture side once your implants are in place. You are not left to work it out alone.
