What is an acrylic denture?

An acrylic denture is a full or partial set of teeth set into a gum-coloured acrylic base. It is the most common kind of denture and, made well, it looks natural and lets you eat and speak with confidence.

We make ours by the conventional flask-and-pack method. It takes a little longer than the quicker pour and ball techniques some labs use, but the result is a stronger, more stable acrylic. Those faster methods have only around 80 percent of the structural integrity, and you feel the difference over the years.

The price includes the teeth, the trays, the bites, a wax try-in and two retries, so you get to see and approve the look before anything is finished. Nothing about the clinical steps is charged as an extra.

How it works

From first impression to fitted

01

Impressions and bite

We take impressions and register how your jaws meet, so the denture is built to your mouth and your bite, not an average.

02

Wax try-in

You see the teeth set in wax and try them for look and feel. We refine the shade, shape and set-up until you are happy, with two retries included.

03

Finish and fit

Once approved, we process the denture in high-impact acrylic and John fits it himself, easing it so it sits comfortably from day one.

Meet the maker

Made and fitted by the technician, not passed down a line

At most practices your denture is made by a lab you never meet, then fitted by someone else again. Here it is made on our own benches in Poole and fitted by John, our registered CDT, who has close to fifty years at the bench.

That is why we still use the conventional flask-and-pack method. It is more work, but it gives a stronger, more stable acrylic and a fit that has been checked by the person who built it. If something needs easing, the maker is right there to do it.

Questions about this service

No jargon, no pressure. If your question is not here, call the lab and a technician will talk it through.

Are acrylic dentures any good compared with chrome or flexible?
Acrylic is the proven all-rounder and suits full sets as well as straightforward partials. Chrome is stronger and slimmer for partials, and flexible is the most discreet for small gaps. We talk you through which suits your case honestly, rather than pushing one option.
Will they look natural, and can I eat and speak normally?
Yes. With gum characterisation and a proper wax try-in you approve the look before it is finished, so it suits your face. Eating and speaking take a little practice at first, then become second nature.
How long do acrylic dentures last?
Well-made acrylic dentures last for years. Your mouth changes shape over time, so a reline may be needed along the way to keep the fit snug. We will tell you when a reline will do and when a remake makes more sense.
Can I get teeth straight away after extractions?
Yes, with an immediate denture. It is made in advance and fitted the same day your teeth are removed, so you are never left without teeth while the gums heal. It is usually relined or replaced once healing settles.
What is a copy denture?
A copy denture is a spare made from your existing set, so you are never stranded if one is lost or broken. It also gives us a proven starting point when it is time for a new set.
Can you get acrylic dentures on the NHS, or is this private?
We make private, lab-made dentures direct to you. NHS dentures are made to a set specification through an NHS dentist. Our full denture cost guide explains the difference so you can decide what is right for you.
