What is a denturist?

A denturist you can see directly, in the lab that makes your teeth

A denturist is a registered Clinical Dental Technician, or CDT: a dental professional trained and registered with the General Dental Council to make dentures and to see denture patients directly. If you wear full dentures, or you are having them for the first time, you can come straight to us. There is no need to be referred by a dentist first.

That matters, because the person who assesses you works in the same building as the bench that makes your dentures. John has been making dentures for the best part of fifty years and he fits them himself. When something needs adjusting, you are talking to the people who made them, not passing a message down a line to a lab you will never see.

If you still have some natural teeth, we simply ask for a quick oral-health check first. If you have a dentist, they can do it. If you do not have one, that is not a problem and it is not something you have to sort out on your own: a dentist visits the lab on Wednesdays, and we will help you get the check arranged. Once that green light is given, we get started.

Which denture suits me?

Which denture is right for you?

Not sure where to start? Here's a plain-English guide to the four kinds of denture we make, and who each one tends to suit. Whichever you lean towards, John talks it through with you at your free consultation.

Replacing some teeth rather than all of them? A partial can be made in any of these materials, so we have set out how to choose between them on our partial dentures page. Not sure which suits you? That is exactly what your free consultation is for. John talks you through the options and recommends what is right for your mouth.

Today I attended your laboratory with broken dentures; within 2 hours you had taken impressions, repaired my denture and even placed a missing tooth! An amazing service and just in time for my daughter's wedding tomorrow.

After years of problems it is so good to have a denture that fits and to be able to eat all types of food with no problem.

I recently had to have a bridge extracted and was dreading dentures. John gave me an option of implants. My implant bridge looks so natural. I am over the moon.

Broken denture? Bring it in today

Repairs are almost always same-day, often within the hour. It is a walk-in clinic in Poole. Please don’t glue it yourself, as that makes the repair harder. Bring the pieces in as they are and we’ll do it properly.

Can’t get to the lab?

John visits patients at home within about ten miles. Very few labs offer this, because it needs a Clinical Dental Technician, and there are few in the South. If getting to us is difficult, we can come to you.

Questions patients ask us

No jargon, no pressure. If your question is not here, call the lab and a technician will talk it through.

Inside the Wessex dental laboratory in Poole
Can I see a denturist without going through a dentist?
Yes. A denturist is a registered Clinical Dental Technician (CDT), and if you wear full dentures, or are having them for the first time, you can come straight to us. If you still have some natural teeth, we simply ask for a quick oral-health check first. Your own dentist can do it, and if you do not have a dentist we will help you arrange it, as a dentist visits the lab on Wednesdays.
How much do dentures cost?
Every mouth is different, so we give you an exact, itemised price after we have seen you, with no obligation. The consultation itself is free. We are happy to talk through the options and what each involves before you commit to anything.
Will dentures look natural and let me eat properly?
Well-made dentures should look natural and let you eat and speak with confidence. We try the teeth in wax first, so you can see and approve the look before they are finished. Because John fits them himself and adjusts them until they are right, most people settle in comfortably.
What is a Clinical Dental Technician (CDT)?
A CDT is a dental professional registered with the General Dental Council to make dentures and to see denture patients directly. John is a registered CDT who has been making dentures for the best part of fifty years, in a DAMAS-accredited, MHRA-registered laboratory.
Are private dentures worth it?
Private dentures give you more time, more choice of materials, and dentures made and fitted by the technician who looks after you. We take the time to try them in, adjust them and get the fit right, rather than working to a rushed schedule.
My denture has broken. Can you repair it today?
Almost always, yes. Repairs are usually same-day, often within the hour, and it is a walk-in clinic in Poole. Please don't glue it yourself, as that makes the repair harder. Bring the pieces in as they are and we'll do it properly.
